Still in the early months of 2015 we have a while yet before we are graced with the sunshine of summer, but that doesn’t you can’t plan where to go swimming in London during the summer time, or even now!
Here is our list of some of the best outdoor swimming pools available in London today.
A beautiful open air 50-metre pool, Brockwell Lido is home to activities for pre-school children including Pilates. There are also Gym facilities and a Hydrotherapy pool for those seeking for a more therapeutic and invigorating experience. The surrounding area is also home to the popular Lido cafe. There are few remaining outdoor swimming pools in London, much less one of this size.
London Fields Lido
The London Fields Lido is one of the city’s best. Open all year round, the East London Park’s outdoor heated pool is great for swimming even in winter. A popular location it can get very busy during the summer. There is a dedicated slow lane for those of you who want to take it easy or perhaps don’t want to be intimidated by ultra fast swimmers.
Parliament Hill Lido
A huge pool measuring 68 metres by 28 metres, Parliament Hill Lido in Hampstead Heath, North-West London looks beautiful and there is an almost metallic shimmering effect on the water, thanks to it’s stainless steel lining (the only outdoor pool of it’s kind in the UK). This pool is not heated so bare that in mind, although obviously not much of an issue on hot days. There are many lifeguards stationed around the pool which adds to reassuring safety. There’s a convenient cafe on site which is handy for a light snack. Another convenience is that it’s also only a couple minutes walk away from Gospel Oak Overground station.
Hillingdon Outdoor Pool
Used to be known as Uxbridge Lido before the refurbishment in 2010, you will find fountains (on both sides) and a heated shallow area for kids, in this open-air 50m pool. There’s a cafe and dedicated spaces to relax beside the pool. The leisure complex which lies beside the lido houses a 50m indoor pool as well as general health and fitness facilities.
A 36 metre open air pool, there’s much to like about Hampton Pool, including a nearby gym and fitness studio and an area of grassy land for sunbathing. swimming lessons are taught here, as well as social sessions including swimming where anyone can join. The pool is also heated all year round.
Tooting Bec Lido
The largest pool on our list, this South London lido measures a whopping just over 90m and is the country’s largest outdoor swimming pool. As you can imagine, devoted swimmers come here all year round but there’s plenty of room for casual swimmers too! There are locker facilities for small valuables but not for larger items such as bags etc. A gorgeous pool that’s even better during the summer, well recommended.
